Aldi has named the next 25 stores across the UK to be upgraded as part of its multi-million pound expansion programme, including four located in Scotland.
The German supermarket's branch in Aberdeen's Cornhill Shopping Arcade is set to be completely refurbished, while branches in Linlithgow, Paisley and Stirling are all expected to be extended as part of the investment.
What the upgrades include
Changes will vary by store, with new sustainable features set to be installed, including energy-efficient fridge doors and natural refrigerants designed to help reduce carbon emissions.
Other select locations are set to benefit from upgrades to Bakery, Health & Beauty and fresh food areas. The overhaul comes as part of Aldi's £300 million investment into revamping its entire UK estate.
Investment and expansion plans
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We’re continuing to invest in our existing stores because we know how important the in-store experience is to customers.
“These upgrades will create more space, improve key areas of our stores and make them easier to shop. It’s an important part of how we’re investing in the communities we serve.”
Now Britain's fourth largest supermarket, overtaking Morrisons in 2022, Aldi has been consistently revamping its stores over the past few years. The move follows a £370 million investment that will see Aldi open 40 stores by the end of 2026, and the supermarket has confirmed it is 'actively seeking' to open new stores in 10 areas across Scotland.
Both store investments form part of Aldi's ambitious two-year expansion plan reportedly worth a record £1.2 billion. This will see the discounter's entire portfolio rise to 1,500 UK stores by the end of 2027.
As of today, Aldi operates more than 1,050 stores, with around 112 located across Scotland. Areas identified for new stores have previously included Bonnyrigg, Cathcart, Falkirk, Stirling and Ayr.

The expansion programme follows growing demand for affordable groceries across the UK, with households facing significant cost pressure, and bosses have said that "access to high-quality affordable food is a right, not a privilege".
