Aldi has issued an urgent 'do not eat' warning for its Gianni’s Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream after discovering undeclared wheat (gluten) in the product. The supermarket is removing the item from shelves across England, Scotland and Wales.
The allergy alert states that the ice cream contains undeclared wheat and gluten, which are not mentioned on the label. This poses a potential health risk for individuals with coeliac disease or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.
The affected product has a best-before date of 14 August 2027. Customers who have bought the ice cream and have a relevant allergy or intolerance are urged not to eat it and to return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund.
Aldi apologised that the product did not meet its 'normal high standards'. The recall was issued in conjunction with the Food Standards Agency, the UK government body responsible for food safety.
