Consumer champion Which? has named Aldi the UK's Cheapest Supermarket for September 2026 for the eleventh consecutive month. In addition, Aldi has been awarded the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) Fruit & Veg Retailer of the Year, marking a double win for the budget retailer.
Price gap widens as shoppers save hundreds
The latest Which? analysis shows that the price gap between Aldi and its competitors continues to widen. Shoppers have saved more than £330 so far this year by choosing Aldi over rival supermarkets.
According to Which?, a basket of 93 items at Aldi cost £159.48, saving shoppers up to £28.23 compared to Tesco, £29.47 compared to Sainsbury's, £33.45 compared to Morrisons (even with loyalty discounts applied), and £63.90 compared to Waitrose.
FPC award recognises fresh produce commitment
The FPC Fruit & Veg Retailer of the Year award further recognises Aldi's commitment to delivering high-quality fresh produce at unbeatable prices. With autumn bringing increased pressure from household energy bills, alongside spending on family activities, children's hobbies, social occasions and preparations for Christmas, Aldi is reminding consumers that cutting costs doesn't have to mean sacrificing life's everyday pleasures.
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: "Families shouldn't have to make sacrifices to the activities, treats or hobbies they enjoy just because everyday household budgets are under pressure. The latest Which? data clearly demonstrates that shoppers can make substantial, ongoing savings simply by changing where they do their weekly shop. At the same time, we're proud to have been recognised as FPC Fruit & Veg Retailer of the Year, highlighting our commitment to providing customers with outstanding fresh produce at great value prices."
