Consumer champion Which? has named Aldi the UK's cheapest supermarket for June 2026, continuing its unbeaten run in the first half of the year. The analysis, based on a basket of 95 popular grocery items, shows Aldi's average price was £163.34 — over £30 cheaper than Tesco and nearly £40 less than Sainsbury's.
Price Comparison With and Without Loyalty Cards
Which? compared prices at Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Waitrose, both with and without loyalty card discounts. Even when loyalty discounts were applied, Aldi remained cheaper than all competitors. Lidl's average basket with loyalty discount was £164.79, while Tesco's was £194.67 and Sainsbury's £193.30. Without loyalty cards, Sainsbury's rose to £203.83, making Aldi £40.49 cheaper.
Waitrose and Ocado Most Expensive
Waitrose was the most expensive at £229.88 — £66.54 more than Aldi. Ocado followed at £214.72. Morrisons and Asda also came in above Aldi, with Morrisons at £198.53 (or £198.41 with loyalty discount) and Asda at £190.39.
Aldi's 2026 Track Record
This marks Aldi's sixth consecutive month as the cheapest supermarket in 2026, following its recognition as Which?'s Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for 2025. The retailer was also named Which? 'Best Value Brand of the Year' for consistently delivering quality at low prices.
