Aldi is offering free strawberries to shoppers at its Wimbledon branch in London until July 3, 2026, to celebrate the start of the Wimbledon Championships. The offer is limited to customers visiting that specific store, where they can take strawberries without charge.
Price Cut Nationwide
For shoppers elsewhere, Aldi has reduced the price of its Nature's Pick British Strawberries (227g) to just 99p, a 55% saving compared to similar punnets at M&S. The retailer reported selling nearly 1,700 tonnes of strawberries during last year's Wimbledon fortnight, equivalent to 4.5 million punnets. This year, Aldi forecasts sales of over five million punnets.
Additional Strawberry Options
Customers can also choose Everyday Essentials Wonky Strawberries (£1.19, 227g), Nature's Pick British Strawberries (£1.99, 400g), Nature's Pick British Strawberries (£2.79, 600g), and Specially Selected British Grown Strawberries (£2.85, 400g).
Wimbledon Tradition
Strawberries and cream have been associated with Wimbledon since the championship began in 1877, when fresh strawberries were a seasonal treat for Victorian high society. The tradition dates back to 1509 when Cardinal Thomas Wolsey served strawberries and cream at the court of King Henry VIII. Today, spectators consume over 38 tons of handpicked berries from Hugh Lowe Farms during the tournament.
