Aldi Bakery Cookies Beat M&S in Taste Test, 36p Each
Aldi Cookies Beat M&S in Taste Test, 36p Each

Aldi's bakery cookies have been named the best in a supermarket taste test, scoring five out of five and beating Marks and Spencer on both flavour and price. At just 36p per cookie, the Aldi pack undercuts M&S's 62p per cookie, saving £1.65 on a five-pack.

The Taste Test

Deputy Editor Millie Bull tested four supermarket bakery cookies against M&S Milk Chocolate Cookies, which she rated four out of five based on previous experience. She praised M&S for its buttery, chewy texture and balanced chocolate pieces, but called them overpriced.

For a fair comparison, each cookie was tasted and stored under the same conditions, assessed on flavour, texture and value for money.

The Results

Aldi's cookies were the surprise winner, with a good chew and a saltiness that brought out the cocoa flavour. "In my view, these beat M&S," Bull wrote, noting the chocolate isn't top quality but the overall balance is excellent.

Co-op's Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies (£1.75 for five) scored 3.5 out of five, praised for their buttery, lightly caramelised taste but slightly smaller size. Sainsbury's Taste the Difference cookies were the most expensive and premium-feeling, but scored just 2.5 out of five due to a dry, shortbread-like texture.

Value for Money

Sainsbury's standard Milk Chocolate Cookies were the cheapest at 30p each, but scored only two out of five, described as average and light on chocolate. The Aldi pack, at £1.80 for five, offered the best combination of quality and price.
