Shoppers have spotted a new version of the iconic After Eight chocolate in UK supermarkets for the first time in 64 years. The orange-flavoured variant has appeared on Ocado's website, listed at £4 for a 200g pack.
New flavours announced
Nestlé recently revealed plans to expand the beloved chocolate brand with Caramel, Orange and Raspberry variants. The orange version has now been spotted on the online retailer, even though the company had not confirmed when the new products would appear in local supermarkets.
It had said the range was due to launch in airport stores from September, before rolling out across supermarkets in Britain. This meant Brits thought they'd have to wait longer to get their hands on the product, but it is now listed on Ocado's site.
Product details
Much like the classic mint version, the orange one has an orange-flavoured filling surrounded by a thin coat of dark chocolate. It currently appears to be the only new flavour available to customers right now.
Each flavour comes in different coloured packaging. The classic mint flavour remains in its green packaging, while the caramel comes in a golden box and the raspberry in pink. Naturally, the orange one comes in orange packaging.
Customer expectations
Some customers are also eager to get their hands on the caramel and raspberry versions of the classic After Eight as well. Customers need to spend a minimum of £40 with the online retailer to complete their order.
Announcing the new flavours, Fred Porchet, general manager of Nestlé International Travel Retail, said After Eight had "long been synonymous with premium mint chocolate", adding that the new flavours would attract even more customers. "This innovation is particularly relevant for travel retail, where shoppers are looking for distinctive gifting solutions and premium products that offer something new," he said.
