The Hean Castle Inn, an independent pub near Saundersfoot beach in Pembrokeshire, has made the "heartbreaking decision" to close its doors after four years of trading, with owners citing soaring energy costs, increased rent, and rising supplier prices as the primary reasons. The pub will shut on Sunday night.
Financial pressure too great to continue
In a social media announcement, the landlords stated: "After exhausting every option we reached the point where we could no longer continue." They described the decision as one of the hardest they have ever had to make, noting that "the numbers simply no longer added up" and that "the financial pressure has simply become too great." The owners emphasized that the business was no longer financially viable despite their efforts.
Heartfelt thanks to staff and customers
The landlords expressed deep gratitude to their team, saying: "You have worked tirelessly, supported us through the good days and the difficult ones, and cared about The Hean as if it were your own." They also thanked customers for their support over the years, from food and live music to rugby and quiz nights. "Those memories are something nobody can ever take away," they added.
