The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed that the Warm Home Discount will reopen later this year during the colder months. The scheme gives eligible households a £150 discount off their electricity bill to help with bills in the winter.
As Andy Burnham takes over as Prime Minister, the DWP has confirmed that the scheme "will reopen in October 2026."
Eligibility in Wales
For people living in Wales, there are two ways to qualify for the discount: either you get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or you are on a low income.
Qualifying benefits are means-tested and include housing benefit, income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income Support, the ‘Savings Credit’ part of Pension Credit and Universal Credit.
Automatic Payment
Those eligible for the discount will get the £150 off their electricity bill automatically, which will be applied by the electricity supplier rather than paid to you.

If the electricity supplier you were with stops trading, you may still be eligible for a Warm Home Discount. Ofgem will appoint your new supplier for you and you can check with your new supplier if you're eligible for the discount.
