A Tesco customer has sparked calls for the supermarket to reintroduce changing rooms after buying a pair of ill-fitting shorts. Christie, a shopper, posted a TikTok video showing the shorts, which were so baggy they resembled a skirt, and argued that trying them on in-store would have saved her the hassle of returning them.
Customer frustration over missing fitting rooms
Christie said she normally tries clothes on in the shop aisle but found it too hot on the day of her purchase. She urged Tesco to listen, stating: 'This is a prime example of why we need the changing rooms back at Tesco.' She even suggested starting a petition, noting that customers don't want to strip off on the shop floor or wait for refunds after buying unsuitable items.
Other shoppers rallied behind her. One commented: '100% we need them back. It annoys me so much. Just bring them back.' Another wrote: 'I don’t buy things most of the time from Sainsbury’s and Tesco because I can't be bothered having to take them back.' A third added: 'It’s so annoying, I had to buy two sizes of one item last week so I could try them on at home. It’s ridiculous.'
Tesco's response and current policy
When contacted, Tesco said it welcomes feedback on the matter. The supermarket noted that while fitting room trials are underway, customers can return F&F clothing within 30 days with proof of purchase. This policy aims to accommodate those who need to exchange or return items that don't fit.
Not all shoppers agree, however. One fashion fan said: 'I just try the stuff on over my leggings. I always get stared at but don’t care.' Despite differing views, the call for reinstated changing rooms remains strong among many Tesco customers.
