A beloved Stockport restaurant has announced it will close after 22 years, citing rental costs as the reason.
Restaurant history and offering
Located on Shaw Road, Pokusevskis opened in 2004 as a tiny delicatessen and grew into a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It offered food from around the world and local markets, specialised in vegan-friendly brunch, and served coffee and cakes throughout the day, later becoming a popular spot for drinks at night.
Owner's statement
In a statement seen by the M.E.N, owner Carole Barton said she had been left with just 14 days to pay more than £10,000 to keep the restaurant open. In a Facebook post, she wrote: “It is with great sadness that we at Pokusevskis will have to say goodbye to our friends and customers.” The statement added: “I have lived on the moor on and off [for] 40 years, but I [have] to declare I’ve been defeated. My only concern is to pay my loyal staff and my great suppliers. Thank you all for kind words. God Bless”
