Ryanair passengers have been warned that a common booking mistake can significantly increase the cost of their flights. The budget airline, popular for its low fares, imposes strict change fees that can quickly add up.
The Booking Blunder
Tourist Josie Johnson shared her experience on TikTok after accidentally booking flights for the wrong dates. She explained that she had booked flights a day early for departure and a day early for return, missing a wedding she intended to attend. The situation was compounded by the fact that the correct dates were cheaper, but Ryanair's policy prevented a refund of the difference.
Johnson said: "I've just booked flights but I've booked the wrong dates. I actually can't believe that this has happened. The worst thing about it all - the flights on the Tuesday are cheaper than the Monday, because Monday is a bank holiday, and if you change the flights with Ryanair as well, you have to pay £45.00 per person per flight, even if the flights are cheaper and you can't get reimbursed."
Ryanair's Change Policy
Ryanair's website outlines the fees and conditions for flight changes. Key points include:
- Flight changes incur a per-person, per-flight fee and any fare difference, with no refund if the new fare is cheaper.
- A 24-hour grace period allows free correction of minor booking errors or route reversal, but fare differences still apply.
- Changes made online cost £45 per passenger per one-way flight; changes via the reservation centre or airport ticket desk cost £60.
Passengers are advised to double-check all details before booking and to be aware of the 24-hour grace period for corrections. Johnson's cautionary tale serves as a reminder to verify dates, times, and routes to avoid costly mistakes.
Ryanair has been contacted for further comment, but the information is already available on their website. Travellers are urged to read the terms carefully before confirming any booking.
