Club Statement Outlines Review Process
In a statement released today, the club said: "We're sharing where we are, what you've told us, and what happens next – including how you'll soon be able to take part in a poll on the evolution of our crest." The statement emphasized the badge's significance: "Our crest is more than just a badge. It embodies who we are and where we come from. It symbolises our community, our values, our history, and the connection shared by every person who has ever worn it or felt it as their own."
Since 1988, the crest has been present through Newcastle United's most defining moments, including the 2025 Carabao Cup win against Liverpool. The club added: "It is with that shared history, and with the deepest respect for what this crest means, that we recently undertook a comprehensive review – one that forms part of a wider examination of every aspect of Newcastle United as we build a future of sustainable success."
Fan Workshops and Poll Eligibility
The process begins in August with workshops for key fan groups, both in person and online. The club stated: "This is your club, and your voice will continue to shape what comes next." Eligibility for the poll includes men's team season ticket holders, women's team season ticket holders, Mags and Mags+ Members as of 18 July, and single women's match attendees who purchased tickets for two or more women's matches during the 25/26 season at Gateshead International Stadium. The club noted: "We acknowledge that not everyone will fall into this criteria, but we must also ensure we safeguard the process from external influences and protect the genuine views of supporters."
Historical Significance of the Current Crest
The current badge has been a witness to the club's history, including the near miss of the Premier League title in 1996, Champions League campaigns, and FA Cup finals. It survived the Mike Ashley era and was on the shirt for the 2025 Carabao Cup victory. The club's decision to change the crest comes as part of a broader effort to modernize and build for the future.
