Man Utd's £38m Ederson Transfer Collapses, Fredricson Exit Nears

Manchester United's pre-season preparations have begun under permanent manager Michael Carrick, with the club already completing three transfers and eyeing further moves. However, a major deal has fallen through, while a young defender is set to depart.

Ederson Deal Collapses

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has signed a new contract with the Italian club, ending speculation of a £38million move to Old Trafford. The Brazil international had appeared close to joining United, but the deal collapsed after an issue was detected during his medical. United were unable to renegotiate terms, and Ederson has now committed his future to Atalanta.

Atalanta released a statement saying: "After an initial four-year spell in the Nerazzurri colours, marked by outstanding results and mutual satisfaction, the bond between Ederson Jose dos Santos Lourenco da Silva and Atalanta BC has grown even stronger. Since his first season with the club, the 2022/23 campaign, Ederson has established himself as one of the team’s technical leaders, becoming a fan favourite thanks to his quality, determination and competitive spirit."

Fredricson Set for Exit

Centre-back Tyler Fredricson is closing in on a permanent move away from Manchester United, according to BBC Sport. The 21-year-old was left out of the squad for Saturday's friendly against Wrexham as he prepares to leave. Celtic is a potential destination after a January move fell through, but a move to mainland Europe could also be an option.

Fredricson, an England youth international, made his United debut under Ruben Amorim towards the end of the 2024/25 season. He has made just four senior appearances, the most recent against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Carrick's Squad Building

Carrick has already bolstered his midfield following Casemiro's departure, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans joining for more than £80million combined. Karl Darlow has arrived as a back-up goalkeeper, while Andre Onana has extended his Trabzonspor loan for a second season. With United securing third place and Champions League football last season, further investment is expected before deadline day.
