Halifax Explains Rules for Replacing Debit and Credit Cards
Halifax Reveals Rules for Card Replacements Online

Halifax has outlined important rules regarding bank card replacements after a customer inquired about obtaining a new debit card. The bank detailed the various options available to customers who require assistance.

Customer Inquiry Sparks Clarification

A customer reached out to Halifax via social media with a question about getting a replacement debit card for an account they hadn't used in a while. They asked: "Is there any way to get a replacement debit card for an account I haven't used for a while without visiting a branch? It's really not convenient for me at the minute." Halifax responded with guidance, confirming that a branch visit would not be necessary. The bank stated: "You can request a replacement debit card via mobile app or online banking, they are available 24/7."

The support team included a note of caution, given that the individual had sought advice through social media. Halifax explained: "Please note we're unable to check account details here, but our team will be able to review the details and help to request a replacement card."

General Rules for Card Replacements

Customers can order a replacement debit card or credit card online if their card is damaged or not working. According to the Halifax website: "When ordered, you'll receive a new card within five working days. You can use our app to view your new card details while you're waiting." To use the online service, customers must have a registered UK address.

How to Order a Replacement Card

Via Mobile App: Log into the app and tap 'Cards' in the navigation bar at the bottom, then select 'Replace card & PIN'. Scroll down and choose 'Replace card'. Verify your address is accurate and matches the one on your statements, then scroll down and select continue. Your replacement card will be delivered within five working days.

Via Online Banking: Log into online banking and click 'Help & Support', then 'Order a replacement card or PIN'. Scroll down and select replace card. Verify your address to ensure it's correct, then scroll down and select continue. Once completed, your replacement card should arrive within five working days.

If you want a replacement card sent to a different address from the one on your account statement, you must visit a Halifax branch to arrange this. After ordering a new debit card, you can view your new card details in the app the following day. For credit card replacements, existing card details remain viewable in the app and can be used for online or phone payments. Full guidance is available on the Halifax website.
