BT Warns of Digital Landline Switch Disruption Within Year
Digital Landline Switch: BT Warns of Disruption in Year

BT has launched a new campaign highlighting less than a year to go before the nationwide switch to a digital landline. The company warned of possible disruption if customers delay taking action on the analogue switchover.

Significant National Upgrade

BT said the switchover represented a “significant national upgrade”, as the UK moves from decades-old infrastructure to more reliable digital landlines.

Lucy Baker, consumer digital voice director at BT, said: “As our research shows, it’s easy to overlook messages from service providers, but doing so could disrupt essential connections.”

She added: “The switch to digital landlines is a significant, once-in-a-generation upgrade to the UK’s communications infrastructure. It’s important to take action when contacted, so everyone can benefit from more reliable, secure technology and stay connected to the services they rely on.”

The campaign comes as the deadline approaches, urging customers to respond to communications from their service providers to ensure a smooth transition. BT emphasised that those who delay may face interruptions to their phone service, which could impact access to emergency services and other critical connections.

Customer Guidance

BT advises customers to look out for letters, emails, or texts from their provider and to follow the instructions to arrange the switch. Vulnerable customers, such as the elderly or those with medical alarms, are encouraged to contact their provider early to discuss any special requirements.

The digital switchover is part of a broader industry-wide effort to modernise the UK's telecoms network, replacing the ageing analogue system with more efficient digital technology.
