Centrica has issued a stark warning over the state of Britain's gas storage, describing the situation as "seriously concerning" for the country's energy security.
Storage levels at critical low
The company, which owns British Gas, said that gas storage inventories are significantly lower than usual for this time of year, leaving the UK vulnerable to price spikes and supply disruptions during the colder months.
Centrica's chief executive, Chris O'Shea, said: "The UK's gas storage is seriously low. We are heading into winter with less storage than we have had in recent years, and that is a concern for everyone."
Call for action
The warning comes as Europe faces a tight gas market following reduced Russian supplies. Centrica urged the government to take steps to bolster storage capacity and ensure the country can weather potential supply shocks.
O'Shea added: "We need to see a plan from the government to improve our energy resilience. The current situation is not sustainable."
