Bruno Fernandes has agreed to commit his future to Manchester United, with the Portuguese midfielder set to confirm his stay at Old Trafford before the end of this month.
The 31-year-old is currently on summer break following Portugal's World Cup exit to eventual winners Spain. He is expected to return to pre-season training next week.
Contract Talks Ongoing
Discussions between his agents and United chiefs regarding a new and improved contract have been ongoing. While no agreement has been finalised, it is understood Fernandes has chosen to dedicate himself to United after a record-breaking season, registering 21 assists in the Premier League to surpass Thierry Henry's 20 in 2002/03 and Kevin De Bruyne's 20 in 2019/20.
Future Uncertainty Resolved
His future had been uncertain for the past 12 months. Last summer, Fernandes contemplated leaving United for a lucrative deal in the Saudi Pro League but opted to stay one more season to see if the club could meet his aspirations. The appointment of Michael Carrick as manager made a significant impact on Fernandes.
United secured a return to the Champions League and continue to make signings to give Carrick the best possible chance of silverware next season.
New Deal Details
Fernandes has entered the last season of his current contract, with a 12-month extension option. Carrick has been eager to secure his star player's future as he plans a Premier League title challenge. Fernandes is expected to become the club's highest-paid player on around £400,000-a-week.
