Online bookmaker BresBet has had its licence suspended by the Gambling Commission over suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings.
The Gambling Commission, which regulates betting in the UK, posted a notice about the enforcement on its website yesterday, and customers have since been unable to access the bookmaker's page.
Suspension details
BresBet, an online firm launched in 2021, has been sponsoring the stable of Grade One-winning jumps trainer Fergal O'Brien, as well as horse and greyhound racing.
The Gambling Commission statement said: "The suspension of BresBet and Bet St George Ltd follows Commission enquiries which revealed suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings.
"The Commission is now carrying out a review of both licences under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005 and the suspension will remain in place until the Commission is satisfied the businesses are compliant.
"It has been made clear to both operators that during the course of the suspension they are expected to treat consumers fairly and keep them fully informed of any developments which impact them."
Customer access and updates
The suspension takes effect immediately but does not prevent either operator from allowing consumers to access their accounts and withdraw funds. Both businesses can be contacted through their websites.
The BresBet website says it is 'currently unavailable' and asks customers with queries to email support@bresbet.com.
An announcement on X said the company was working through 'a high volume' of messages, following an initial post about the suspension that read: "Important update."
BresBet said it is currently temporarily unavailable following the suspension of its operating licence by the Gambling Commission, is working through the matter and will provide further updates when appropriate, and is not currently accepting bets.
