Blue Cross Blue Shield Settlement Payouts Begin May 2026

Blue Cross Blue Shield customers are set to start receiving payments from a $2.67 billion antitrust settlement. Payments are expected to be issued in May 2026 for customers who filed a claim by the November 2021 deadline, according to the settlement website.

Settlement Background

The settlement stems from an agreement in October 2020 to resolve an antitrust class action lawsuit against the insurance company. A 2013 lawsuit accused the business of working with competitors to reduce competition in health insurance. Blue Cross Blue Shield denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case to avoid the cost of further litigation.

Distribution Details

A total of $1.9 billion will be distributed to Blue Cross Blue Shield customers who were insured between February 8, 2008, and October 16, 2020. Additionally, healthcare providers can claim payment for work performed between July 24, 2008, and October 4, 2024. The settlement aims to compensate those affected by alleged anticompetitive practices while allowing the company to move forward without admitting liability.
