US regulators have recalled nearly 12,000 pounds of Maple Leaf Foods smoked bacon sold in 550 stores because it did not undergo mandatory import reinspection. The recall was issued July 24 by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Product details and distribution
The affected products are 12-oz vacuum packages of "Royale Natural Applewood Smoked ALL NATURAL Uncured Bacon" with sell by dates of Sep 1 and Sep 7, 2026, and "TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon" with various sell by dates in early September. They bear Canadian establishment number "EST. 1" and health certificate "2026-S732971612". Distribution was to Grocery Outlet distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
Health risk and consumer advice
FSIS said the problem was found during routine inspection. "There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to consumption of these products," the agency stated. The recall is classified as "high - Class I", the most serious category, meaning there is a reasonable probability that consumption could cause serious health consequences or death.
