Halton Council has advertised a planning application for a major scheme at land north of Cronton Lane in Widnes, proposing a residential development alongside new sports facilities.

The application, reference 26/00290/FUL, seeks permission for housing with supporting infrastructure, public open space, landscaping, sustainable urban drainage and access works. It also includes demolition of a former sports and social club building and construction of a new clubhouse with associated sports pitches, a bowling green and car parking.

Departure from the development plan

According to the public notice, the application does not accord with the development plan, so it is being advertised as a departure to invite public representations. The council is now consulting on the plans, with comments invited within 24 days of the date of publication of the notice.

The scheme includes residential housing and associated infrastructure, public open space and landscape works, sustainable urban drainage features, new or improved site access, and a new clubhouse, sports pitches and a bowling green alongside parking.

Plans can be viewed online via the council’s planning portal using reference 26/00290/FUL, in person at Halton Direct Link, Rutland House, Halton Lea, Runcorn WA7 2ES, or at Halton Direct Link, 7 Brook Street, Widnes WA8 6NB. Copies are also available at council libraries.

Anyone wishing to make representations should email the development control team at dev.control@halton.gov.uk or write to Director – Planning and Transport, Municipal Building, Kingsway, Widnes, Cheshire, WA8 7QF. Representations must be received within 24 days of the notice’s publication date.

What happens next

After the consultation period, Halton Council will assess the application against planning policies, technical guidance and consultation responses before reaching a decision. If required, the application may be reported to a planning committee meeting for determination.
