Crysencio Summerville has been linked with a move to Manchester United ever since his impressive performances for the Netherlands at the World Cup. However, the West Ham United winger's potential transfer to Old Trafford has encountered fresh obstacles following weekend developments.
Roma's £39 Million Bid
Serie A side AS Roma has submitted a £39 million offer for Summerville, according to Italian reports. West Ham, who were relegated from the Premier League, are seeking £50 million for the Dutch international, who scored twice and provided two assists during the World Cup.
Aston Villa Enters the Race
Aston Villa have emerged as potential contenders for Summerville's signature after Chelsea received the green light to sign Morgan Rogers for a staggering £117 million. Reports from Sky Sports indicate Roma are closing in on a deal, with the player reportedly giving his approval to join the Italian club. The Athletic suggests Villa may target Summerville as a replacement for Rogers, but they must act quickly to beat Roma or United.
Rogers' Imminent Chelsea Move
Rogers' transfer to Chelsea is expected to be finalized imminently, with a medical scheduled for Monday. Villa will then need to fill the void left by the versatile attacker, who assisted Anthony Gordon's goal in England's World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina. Summerville and Paris Saint-Germain's Ibrahim Mbaye are believed to be Villa's primary targets.
Manchester United's Transfer Priorities
United's main focus this window has been rebuilding their midfield following Casemiro's departure and Manuel Ugarte's long-term injury. Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have been signed from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively, but the Reds are eyeing a third midfield addition. However, left wing remains a priority for Michael Carrick's side, along with a potential new striker.
Director of football Jason Wilcox emphasized the club's commitment to strengthening the squad, stating: "Michael has done an excellent job and thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue as head coach of our men's team. The results speak for themselves, with United picking up the highest points tally in the Premier League since he returned to the club. Everyone is delighted with Michael's leadership and total alignment with our club's values. The hard work continues behind the scenes to prepare his first-team squad for next season."
