Spencer Matthews admits marriage 'struggled' after business launch

Spencer Matthews has confessed that his relentless focus on launching his alcohol-free spirits brand CleanCo created significant tension in his marriage to Vogue Williams. The 37-year-old reality TV star admitted he had "no off switch" when it came to the business, which he founded in 2019.

Obsession with CleanCo strained relationships

Speaking on Jordan Wylie's Untapped podcast, Matthews revealed that his single-minded dedication to the venture came at a cost. "That is something my wife and I have struggled with in the past," he said. "When I started Clean Co, I was just like a dog with a bone. I slept sporadically, I was pacing around the kitchen at four in the morning chatting to Australian investors. I just had no chill, no off switch, was for all intents and purposes thinking I was Bill Gates, I was just in it."

Matthews, who previously battled heavy drinking before transforming his lifestyle, acknowledged that his obsession led to the deterioration of some friendships. "Some relationships, some friendships certainly, suffered to the point of extinction. There's just no time for it," he added. "Time that I would have spent in the time with my pals replaced with Zooms and project building calls with your team. I'm just more excited by that and this stage of my life."

Family life and upcoming arrival

Despite the challenges, Matthews and Williams, who have been together for nearly a decade, are expecting their fourth child in August. The couple, who met on the reality TV show The Jump, already share three sons: Theodore, seven, Gigi, five, and Otto, four.

Matthews is known for his dramatic lifestyle change, which included running 30 marathons in 30 days across the Jordanian desert. His alcohol-free brand CleanCo produces spirits and ready-to-drink canned cocktails, reflecting his commitment to a healthier way of living.

Vogue Williams confronts online trolls

The revelation comes after Williams, 38, shared her own experiences with online abuse. The mother-of-three, who commands 1.2 million Instagram followers and co-hosts three podcasts, recalled tracking down a troll who sent her "awful stuff." She told The Mail's Harriet Kean: "She would mail me this awful stuff, so I found her second name because she was using her own account, and emailed some of her family, and said, 'This is what she has been sending me'."

In February, Williams also described a "bizarre" encounter where a user asked when she would "get rid of that wart on your face," referring to her mole. She responded by tagging the individual in a post. Williams has appeared on shows including Bear Grylls: Mission Survive and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, and is no stranger to the perils of fame.
