Scotia Handling Services, a family-run business established in 1973, has submitted a planning application to Renfrewshire Council for changes at its Bridge Street base in Linwood. If approved, the site layout will be rationalised to improve operational safety and efficiency, with overgrown vegetation cleared to the rear to aid vehicle manoeuvrability and a modular unit removed.
Proposed changes and new office space
The remaining modular unit would be relocated to the back for storage, and three converted shipping containers would be installed to provide modern office space with disabled access. The application was received by the council towards the end of June and validated by its planning department last Wednesday.
Scotia Handling Services specialises in lifting equipment and load testing for clients in the marine, construction, and engineering sectors. It has operated in Linwood since incorporation more than 50 years ago, building a reputation on "an unswervingly high quality service" with a focus on customer satisfaction.
Site details and public consultation
The application describes the site's existing use: "The site has been our business location since incorporation in 1973. We are an independent, family-run business that specialises in lifting equipment and load testing for the marine, construction and engineering sectors primarily."
Currently, the workshop is at the front, with two modular units behind serving as office space. Beside these is a parking area, and the yard is at the rear. The council has notified neighbours by letter and invited comments until Wednesday, August 12. A decision by planning officers is expected at a later date.
