PSG fined and suspended ban after Champions League final vs Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain have been fined a total of €90,875 (£78,380) by UEFA following the behaviour of their supporters during the Champions League final against Arsenal. The French club have also received a suspended one-match ban from selling tickets to away fans, which will not take effect for two years.

Details of the sanctions

The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) imposed an €80,000 (£69,000) fine for the "lighting of fireworks" and a further €10,875 (£9,380) fine for the "throwing of objects" by PSG supporters. The suspended ban on selling tickets to away supporters is for one UEFA competition match, but will only be enforced if PSG commit a similar offence within the next two years.

The CEDB statement read: "To fine Paris Saint-Germain €80,000 and to ban Paris Saint-Germain from selling tickets to its away supporters for the next (1) UEFA competition match, for lighting of fireworks. Said ban from selling tickets to its away supporters is suspended for a probationary period of two (2) years, starting from the date of the present decision." It added: "To fine Paris Saint-Germain €10,875 for throwing of objects."

Match background

Arsenal were defeated by PSG in the Champions League final held in Budapest last month. The match ended 1-1 after extra time, with PSG winning 4-3 on penalties. The Gunners had taken an early lead but were pegged back, and ultimately fell short in the shootout.

Despite the defeat, Arsenal went on to win the Premier League title that season, while PSG lifted the Champions League trophy. Both clubs are expected to feature in the 2026/27 Champions League, with Arsenal seeded in pot one for the league phase draw alongside Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.

Impact and next steps

The suspended ban means PSG will be able to sell tickets to their away supporters for the upcoming season, provided no further infringements occur. The fines are payable to UEFA and the club has not indicated whether it will appeal. Arsenal will be eager to build on their domestic success and challenge again in Europe next season.
