Albanese Earns £75k in Rent from £4.3m Coastal Retreat, Far Above UK Average
PM's Rental Income Doubles National Average

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has earned approximately £75,000 in rental income over the past year from his luxury coastal property on the Central Coast, according to official tenancy records.

A Premium Investment Property

Albanese purchased the architect-designed, four-bedroom home overlooking Copacabana Beach for £4.3 million in 2024. He has kept it tenanted ever since, with plans to eventually move into the retreat with his wife, Jodie Haydon, upon retiring from political life.

The property was leased throughout 2025 at a rate of £1,450 per week. This figure places the Prime Minister's rental yield far above the norm. Data indicates the average UK landlord receives about £650 weekly, meaning Albanese's gross return is more than double the national average and significantly higher than the local Copacabana median of roughly £800 per week.

Market Adjustments and Tenant Search

The journey to securing a long-term tenant involved a slight market adjustment. Initially listed at £1,500 per week, the first occupant stayed only a month before the home was temporarily withdrawn.

It was relisted on July 21, 2025, shortly after Albanese's landslide re-election victory. A subsequent rent reduction to £1,450 per week soon followed, and a new long-term tenant was secured by September that year.

The premium rent reflects the area's status as a growing high-end coastal enclave. The original listing promoted its proximity to the beach, describing it as "the perfect spot to soak up the sun, catch sight of whales, or enjoy magnificent sunrises all year round."

Portfolio and Parliamentary Disclosure

The beach house is one of two properties owned by the Prime Minister, the other being his long-held home in his Sydney Inner West electorate. He recently divested a third investment, selling his Dulwich Hill residence in late 2024 for £1.75 million, netting a gain of around £575,000 on his 2015 purchase price.

In line with parliamentary rules, Albanese updated his register of interests in January 2025 to declare unspecified 'rental income' from the Copacabana property. His actual net earnings after expenses like mortgage interest, insurance, and maintenance remain undisclosed.

Beyond property, Albanese ranks among the nation's highest earners. His base salary was adjusted to approximately £622,000 in July 2025, up from £607,500, placing him in the top tier of global leader remuneration and the UK's highest tax bracket.
