Plan for New Hotel on Deansgate Run by 'Internationally Recognised' Name
Plan for New Hotel on Deansgate with 238 Rooms

Plans have been announced for a new hotel on Deansgate in Manchester city centre, to be operated by an 'internationally recognised' brand. The proposal, submitted by Deansgate Ventures Limited, would transform Maybrook House at the corner of Deansgate and Blackfriars Street into a 238-room hotel based on a 'lean luxury' model.

Details of the Proposed Development

The existing six-storey building, which has previously housed a gym, restaurant, and offices, would be extended by two storeys under the plans. The hotel would also include a bar area and a 'prep' kitchen. The site is described as 'car free' and located in a 'highly sustainable and accessible location' close to major public transport links, including Victoria train station and the Metrolink.

Economic Impact and Jobs

If approved, the hotel could create 60 permanent 'full-time equivalent' jobs in hospitality and contribute £3.3 million to the local economy annually, according to the developers. A planning report states: 'The site currently comprises an underutilised building in need of refurbishment and investment which makes a limited contribution to the vitality and appearance of the surrounding area.'

Regeneration Opportunity

The report adds: 'Given its prominent gateway location, the site presents a significant opportunity to support the continued regeneration and enhancement of this part of Manchester city centre.' The proposed development would bring the building 'back into active and productive use through the delivery of high-quality visitor accommodation, increasing activity and footfall.'

Maybrook House was originally built in 1973 as an office building. Manchester City Council has set a target date of September 10 to decide on the planning application.
