A historic Fife church that appeared in the hit TV series Outlander has been put on the market, giving fans the chance to own a piece of the village made famous on screen. Falkland Parish Church is listed for offers over £105,000, with the B-listed building at the heart of Falkland.
The village was transformed into Inverness for the time-travelling drama, and the church featured in seasons one, two, and four. Falkland's historic streets and buildings helped bring the show's 1940s Inverness setting to life, making it a popular destination for Outlander fans.
Community plans for the church
The church's future is uncertain after the Church of Scotland confirmed plans to dispose of it. Falkland Parish Church was among 52 churches in Fife earmarked for closure in 2022 due to falling attendance and mergers with nearby parishes. The denomination plans to sell the property by the end of December 2027.
Local efforts have emerged to explore a new future for the building. The Falkland Futures Trust was set up to investigate whether the community could take ownership and turn the church into a hub for events, exhibitions, and activities.
Potential new uses
The late 19th-century building features a striking steeple and a main church hall, along with a room and a first-floor gantry with seating. Although previously a place of worship, it could be transformed into an art gallery, museum, public library, nursery, day centre, or educational facility. Other possibilities include a theatre, cinema, entertainment venue, shop, or community space, subject to planning permissions.
The sale could mark a new chapter for the landmark, with its Outlander connection adding extra appeal for fans of the series.
