Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Inter Milan midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic, despite the Serbian only signing for the Italian giants less than three weeks ago. The 20-year-old, son of Inter and Serbia legend Dejan Stankovic, came through the ranks at Inter before leaving for Club Brugge in 2025. He scored nine goals in 55 appearances last season.
Inter's quick sale plan
Inter completed the deal to bring Stankovic back to the San Siro after only a year in Belgium. The Italian side had a €23 million (£19.85 million) buy-back clause, which they exercised at the start of June. Stankovic signed a five-year contract with Inter, but reports in Italy suggest the club is willing to sell him for around €40 million (£34.5 million), almost doubling their money on the youngster.
Newcastle's midfield search
Newcastle are in the market for central midfield options, particularly a No. 6, and that need will intensify if Sandro Tonali leaves in the coming weeks. Tottenham are set to return with another bid for the Italian, while Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation. Newcastle have also watched Senegal midfielder Lamine Camara, with Monaco open to offers for the 22-year-old, who is valued at around £50 million. If Newcastle bank around £170 million from the sales of Tonali and Anthony Gordon, they could afford to spend big in midfield.
Other targets
Dutch youngster Kees Smit has once again emerged as a potential target, while Middlesbrough will demand around £20 million for England U21 midfielder Hayden Hackney, plus a further £5 million in add-ons.
