What began as a simple garden improvement project has escalated into a £35,000 nightmare for one Warwickshire couple, after discovering their neighbour's new wall was built on land they now claim ownership of.
Mark and Stephanie Jones purchased their dream home in 2021, only to find themselves embroiled in a bitter property dispute that threatens to drain their savings. The conflict centres around a newly constructed boundary wall that their neighbour insists they must pay for - despite the Joneses never approving the work.
The Shocking Demand
"We received a bill for £35,000 completely out of the blue," Mark explained, still visibly shaken by the demand. "Our neighbour had built an extensive wall and landscaping features, then presented us with an invoice claiming the work was necessary for boundary maintenance."
The couple had been aware of construction work occurring on the adjacent property but assumed it was entirely within their neighbour's boundaries. The reality proved far more complicated when surveyors revealed the expensive wall actually encroached on disputed land.
