Murderers' Home Back on Market at £370k with Warning

Property Relisted Following Convictions

The former residence of two adoptive fathers imprisoned for the killing of Preston Davey has been put back on the market for £370,000, with potential buyers alerted to its previous occupants. Jamie Varley and his then partner John McGowan-Fazakerley had frequently discussed moving from their semi-detached home on Staining Avenue in Blackpool. The pair were already in custody regarding Preston's death but received the keys to their new property on Chandlers Way, Grimsargh, just 22 days later.

Timeline of Events

Land registry records show that on 18 August, the duo finalized the purchase of their new home and moved in shortly after. Local residents later stated they were unaware of the pair's criminal history. The truth emerged when police executed a search warrant at the address in June 2024 and charged both individuals.

Trial Details

During a trial lasting over seven weeks at Preston Crown Court, the jury heard how Preston had suffered severe physical, emotional, and sexual abuse after being placed with the couple as potential adopters in March 2023. A post-mortem revealed the toddler had sustained approximately 40 injuries. Legal representatives described the case as among the most disturbing they had witnessed, with Preston enduring a relentless pattern of cruelty throughout his final months, according to Lancs Live.

Sentences and Property Sale

Varley was convicted of murder, sexual offences, causing grievous bodily harm, cruelty, and indecent image offences, receiving a whole life order. McGowan-Fazakerley was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child, cruelty, and sexual assault, and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Their former home on Chandlers Way has now returned to the market with a £370,000 price tag—£80,000 less than the £450,000 they originally paid for the five-bedroom detached property. The house will be sold via online auction ending on 31 July.

It acknowledges the pair's convictions and states: "The vendor is currently serving a custodial sentence following conviction for offences involving [a minor].
