A mother has been left furious after receiving a £100 parking fine despite having a valid permit displayed in her car. The incident occurred in Westminster, where council officials rejected her appeal, claiming the permit was not visible.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, insists she had paid for the permit and displayed it correctly. "I couldn’t believe it when I got the fine," she said. "I followed all the rules, but they wouldn’t listen."
Council stands firm
Westminster Council defended its decision, stating that their enforcement officers had not seen the permit at the time of issuing the ticket. A spokesperson said: "Our officers act on what is visible during inspections. If a permit isn’t clearly displayed, a penalty may be issued."
What can drivers do?
To avoid similar disputes, motorists are advised to:
- Ensure permits are clearly visible on the dashboard
- Keep proof of payment and permit registration
- Challenge fines immediately with photographic evidence
The mother has now paid the fine to avoid further charges but remains frustrated by the council’s inflexibility.
