Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos insists striker Zan Vipotnik is happy at the club despite Hull City's failed bid, but admits he could depart if a suitable offer arrives.
The Tigers' bid for the Swans number nine, understood to be in the region of £10m, was swiftly rejected, and it seems unlikely the Premier League side will return with an improved offer.
Matos on Hull's pursuit
"It's normal," Matos said when asked about Hull's interest. "One club does a proposal, the other club sees if he's good, if he's not good, he rejects it. I don't know exactly the numbers on that [the bid], so I think the club in this case need to see what is the right valuation for the player."
"We're really happy. Vipi is really happy with us. If the right offer comes then we speak. If not, we keep going. The sun is here today so he's happy like we are at the moment. He's really happy here. But of course, the market is open and you never know, but I think it's part of being a professional and Vipi is a really good professional."
WalesOnline understands the Swans would only entertain offers of around £20m for the 24-year-old, and Matos admits deals elsewhere influence their valuation.
"I think that valuation fluctuates even during the window," he added. "We see the amount of deals between clubs in the Championship and clubs from other leagues and even from the Premier League. So that fluctuation is related with that as well. It always depends how the market is, the value, how we value that player. It's not my place to give a number. It's my place to see the situation and to train with Vipi while he is here with me and I hope he will be with me after [the window closes]."
Burgess injury blow
Vipotnik could start Saturday's Championship opener with Stoke City, with new signing Ross Stewart still working towards full fitness. One man who won't feature is centre-back Cameron Burgess, with the club confirming on Thursday the Australian international suffered a ruptured Achilles.
Burgess could be sidelined for as much as nine months, meaning he's unlikely to play again this season, after limping out of the Carabao Cup first round defeat to Birmingham City last weekend.
"I think Cam is an important player for all of us," Matos said. "He's one of the main players of the team. He played all the games last season in the Championship then the World Cup. Unfortunately for him he has this situation now. We are here for him and for the family as a club. He knows that he has all our support and we know as well that he has the right mentality and the right character to bounce back."
Transfer plans
Matos was believed to be keen on adding a centre-back before Burgess's injury, and it remains to be seen whether those plans accelerate. Asked if the timeframe of the former Ipswich Town man's absence changed his plans, Matos said: "We look at the window in the same way, so there's a lot of options. There's players and we will see what we need to do regarding that and that's always in the moment. I think first is the respect we need to show for the situation of Cam, so our mind and our thinking is first on him more than anything and then we look on the market in the same way."
"I said that of course we need more depth in one or two positions. So we are seeing in the same way the market is open until it's closed."
