A man stripping wallpaper at home discovered a massive gap between the wall and window frame, hidden by plastic trim, and shared his dilemma on Reddit.
Surprise Discovery During DIY
Posting on Reddit, the homeowner titled the post: "Surprises under the wallpaper." The photos show a bizarre gap between the wall and window frame, while a second shot demonstrates the true extent of the size as he placed his hand to give an estimation.
He continued in the caption: "When stripping off the wallpaper we discovered it was just joined onto some plastic trim that covered this massive gap."
Seeking Advice for Fixing the Gap
In a bid to seek advice, he asked: "A) What's the best to use to fill the external gap? B) How do I make the internal gap? So many gaps."
Fortunately, many people had advice for the man to solve the problem all himself. One said: "No expert but I've seen expanding foam being used in such gaps followed by a UPVC trim to cover it. Seems to be what most window/door fitters use."
Another added: "Low expansion window and door foam would be best bet. Protect the outside or it will all come out the front if you aren't careful. Trim once it sets and silicone on the outside and trim on the interior or fill and decorate to the frame."
A third joked: "Omg you got the free air con upgrade. Requires a bit of chalk. Foam it up and retire or plaster over it."
Easy Water Spray Trick for Wallpaper Removal
Previously, one woman took to social media to share her simple trick for effortlessly peeling off wallpaper – and all you need is a spray bottle and water.
She advised: "Stripping wallpaper does not need to be painful; it can actually be quite satisfying. You just need to get yourself a little sprayer, like this. Mine's a manual pump one from Screwfix, and I think it was like £6 or something. And then, honestly, it's as simple as just soaking the wall. I tend to put warm water in mine, but I don't think it matters. Just soak the wall. Completely drench it [so it's] soaking wet through. Leave it for 20 minutes, then soak it again. If you're still struggling, soak it again and leave it again. Honestly, just let it do its thing. It should come off nice and easy, and there should be no struggle. It really is as easy as that."
