Manchester United are ready to step up their pursuit of France midfielder Manu Kone, with a bid for the Roma star potentially arriving as early as today. The Premier League club have already been active in the summer transfer window, but further reinforcements are on the agenda, particularly in midfield after a move for Ederson collapsed.
Kone bid could come today
According to reports in Italy, United could test Roma's resistance with a bid for Kone, who is valued at upwards of £42.5m by the Serie A club. The 25-year-old joined Roma for just £15.3m and has made 82 appearances for the Giallorossi. Kone was part of France's World Cup squad and reportedly asked representatives to delay transfer talks until after the tournament, during which he played five times, starting knockout wins over Paraguay and Morocco.
Vitek open to leaving
Goalkeeper Radek Vitek has indicated he is open to leaving Old Trafford permanently or on loan this summer. The Czech youngster impressed on loan at Bristol City last season and is keen to be a starting goalkeeper in the upcoming campaign. "I feel great and ready to go again somewhere to be, hopefully, number one, so we will see," Vitek said after a second-half run-out against Wrexham. "We will see what is going to happen. At the moment, I am still here, but we will see. I hope so. I hope there will be some interest."
Pre-season underway
United gave new signing Andrey Santos a debut against Wrexham on Saturday, but the result was not what manager Michael Carrick wanted, with the Welsh side winning 1-0. Santos is one of three senior signings this summer, along with Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow. Further exits could follow after Casemiro and Jadon Sancho left when their contracts expired.
