Manchester United are closing in on a busy end to the summer transfer window, with a clear path emerging for a £14m move for Spanish left-back Jorge Salinas and teenage midfielder Louis Page reportedly favouring a switch to Old Trafford.
Salinas release clause set at £16m
Racing Santander's sporting director Chema Aragon has confirmed the club will not negotiate below the player's release clause. "A club has offered €14m for Jorge Salinas, and Racing have rejected it," Aragon said. "His release clause is €16 million, and the club will not budge from that figure."
The 19-year-old, contracted until 2029, was a regular starter last season as Racing secured promotion back to La Liga. United would need to pay just under £14m to activate the clause and beat fellow interested party Barcelona to his signature.
Page prefers United over Arsenal
Leicester City youngster Louis Page would prefer to join Manchester United despite interest from Premier League champions Arsenal, according to The Athletic. Page, 18, won the Championship's Apprentice of the Year award last season and featured 18 times in the league despite Leicester's relegation.
The central midfielder came on as a substitute in Leicester's Carabao Cup first round fixture last weekend. Should he leave, Page would follow teammate Jeremy Monga in moving from the Foxes to a Premier League club. Monga, the second-youngest player in Premier League history, has signed for Manchester City in a £12.5m deal.
Carrick's squad taking shape
United have already spent more than £80m this summer, with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos arriving from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively. Karl Darlow joined on a free from Leeds, while Tynan Thompson is the latest young talent to arrive.
Michael Carrick's side face AC Milan this weekend after Wednesday's meeting with Leeds, before opening their Premier League season at Hull City on August 22. Further additions could be completed before then.
