KNOX Hydration representatives put £1,000 behind the bar at The Dubliner in Newcastle after the Magpies' 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday, rewarding fans who stayed for post-match drinks.
The gesture came after a penalty in the final moments denied Newcastle United an opening-day victory, leaving supporters in need of a stiff drink.
Fans rewarded after tense draw
Following a pre-season that saw the high-profile exits of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, the Magpie faithful might have approached the 2026/27 campaign with little optimism. However, on a day when supporters of both teams united to pay tribute to the late Kevin Keegan, Newcastle, under new boss Matthias Jaissle, gave fans reason for positivity with a performance that would have earned all three points had it not been for Dominik Szoboszlai's goal after five minutes of added time.
A point against the former champions was still something to celebrate, and with the sun still high over Newcastle at full time, plenty of supporters headed out for post-match drinks. At The Dubliner, one of the busiest pubs in the Toon, some fans got an unexpected treat.
KNOX's generous gesture
Living up to their name, KNOX Hydration kept a few Geordies well 'hydrated' after the final whistle, with their gesture of putting a grand behind the bar being lapped up by all those inside The Dubliner at the time.
One member of the KNOX team stepped onto the pub's stage, not to deliver an impromptu song, but to thank fans for their support, as news of the £1,000 bar tab was met with cheers.
New sponsorship deal
The new kit sponsors' generosity comes after United's training ground at Darsley Park in Benton was renamed The KNOX, as the company sealed a three-year front-of-shirt and training facility naming-rights deal.
