The Stein Inn, the oldest inn on the Isle of Skye, has been put up for sale, offering a new owner the chance to run an established Highland business in one of Scotland's most scenic settings.
Located in the village of Stein on the Waternish Peninsula, the property overlooks Loch Bay with views across the water towards the Outer Hebrides. Dating back to 1790, the inn has become a popular destination for both tourists and locals, drawing visitors from around the world for its food, drink and accommodation.
Award-winning bar and fresh seafood
Inside, the inn features a traditional public bar, restaurant and snug, along with several dining areas. Its award-winning bar offers more than 120 Scottish whiskies, as well as local beers and gins. The restaurant makes the most of its waterfront location by serving fresh seafood landed daily from Loch Bay, and the inn has been featured in the Michelin Guide and a number of international food and travel publications.
For overnight guests, there are five en-suite bedrooms, all refurbished in 2024, each with views across Loch Bay and décor inspired by the island. A separate one-bedroom self-catering apartment, completed in 2026, provides an additional income stream.
Staff accommodation and waterfront grounds
The property also includes staff accommodation, with two bedrooms in the main building, three caravans and a garden pod. Outside, garden seating areas overlook the bay, with opportunities to spot wildlife and watch the sun set over the water.
The current owners are selling as they plan to relocate to England. The Stein Inn is being marketed for offers in the region of £1,845,000, with the asking price including the property, goodwill and trade contents.
