Homes Under the Hammer Bungalow Doubles Value Post Renovation

A bungalow featured on Thursday's episode of Homes Under the Hammer nearly doubled in value after a £100,000 renovation. The four-bedroom dormer bungalow in Barry, South Wales, had an auction guide price of £242,000.

Presenter Martin Roberts, 62, was impressed by the property's size, commenting: 'Immediately, this is not feeling like a small bungalow. It's really rather spacious.' He noted that while it was dated and needed work, there was significant potential.

The property was purchased for £250,000 by business partners Tom and Steve, their first development project. They aimed to complete the renovation within 12 weeks on a £70,000 budget, but ultimately spent just under £100,000 to achieve a modern, high-quality finish.

After the renovation, a property specialist valued the finished bungalow at approximately £425,000, potentially yielding a pre-tax profit of £75,000. Tom expressed satisfaction with the valuation, stating: 'That's exactly what I was expecting.'

Homes Under the Hammer airs on weekdays at 11:30am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
