Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed a series of branch closures for 2026, joining a growing list of banks shutting sites across UK high streets. The banking giant, which includes Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, plans to close dozens of branches throughout the remainder of the year, with additional closures scheduled for the first half of 2027. According to Lloyds, the majority of closures are driven by customers shifting to online banking, preferring mobile apps, websites, or phone services.

Which Bank of Scotland branches are closing?
Only four Bank of Scotland branches have been confirmed to close in 2026: Benbecula, Western Isles (July 1); Largs, North Ayrshire (July 29); Hawick, Scottish Borders (October 7); and Grangemouth, Stirlingshire (October 8). No closures have been announced for 2027.
High street closures continue
The high street has seen a wave of closures across shops, banks, and restaurants. Quiz Clothing shut its remaining 20 stores after falling into administration. Fashion retail chain Leading Labels also announced store closures, and Morrisons plans to close 100 of its Daily convenience stores. Earlier in the year, restaurants Franco Manca and The Real Greek confirmed closures, along with Santander and Claire’s Accessories.
