Walker's Relegation with Burnley
Walker suffered relegation with Burnley in his first season at Turf Moor and is now tasked with getting them out of the Championship. The 36-year-old made 35 starts in the Premier League last season, highlighting his durability despite his age. He has remained with the club and scored the winning penalty in their Carabao Cup victory over Notts County on Saturday.
Everton's Interest and Squad Additions
Everton have already signed Brennan Johnson, Christian Norgaard, and Tyrique George this summer. Johnson became their latest addition this week in a swap deal that saw Dwight McNeil head to Crystal Palace. Moyes is eyeing a move for Walker to bolster his defensive options.
Walker's Experience and Ambition
The former England international boasts a CV that includes six Premier League titles and the Champions League. He has previously played in the Championship with Sheffield United and QPR, where he was part of a title-winning team. Walker believes Burnley have the quality to make an immediate return to the top flight.
"Things aren’t always going to go as planned," he said. "This season might not go as planned. It might not be as plain sailing as we all want it to be. But I feel with the quality, what we have in the dressing room, that’s what we should be doing: getting promoted and going back to the Premier League."
Since 2013, Burnley have won promotion from the Championship four times but have been relegated as many times. This is their sixth straight year playing in a different tier following a period of ups and downs.
