Ellen DeGeneres Sells Cotswolds Farmhouse After Fleeing Trump

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have put their Cotswolds farmhouse on the market for £22.5 million, having moved to the UK the day before the US presidential election. The couple initially intended the property as a part-time home but decided to sell after realising the stables were too small for de Rossi's horses.

Speaking at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, DeGeneres said: 'We got here the day before the election and we woke up to lots of texts from our friends and crying emojis. We were like, “We’re staying here, we’re not going back, we are not leaving.”' The former talk show host cited fears over Donald Trump's threat to LGBTQ+ rights, including potential rollbacks of same-sex marriage protections.

DeGeneres noted that the couple would consider remarrying in Britain if necessary. The property, described by E! News as featuring a pool, helipad, and 'party barn', was bought as a temporary retreat but failed to accommodate de Rossi's equestrian needs.

The move highlights the privileged position of wealthy Americans who can relocate with ease, contrasting with the struggles of undocumented immigrants facing deportation. DeGeneres's decision reflects a broader trend of affluent US citizens seeking refuge abroad following Trump's return to power.
