Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard has revealed he offered Jeremy Clarkson the chance to own his pub for free, but the offer was declined. Coulthard owned The Brown Dog in Barnes, south-west London, which he said "just didn't work."
Coulthard's offer to Clarkson
In a drive-along interview with Jodie Kidd on YouTube, Coulthard said: "I bought a pub in Barnes which just didn't work. It was The Brown Dog, and we couldn't make it work."
He added: "I actually offered it to Jeremy Clarkson. I said, 'Jeremy, I'll give you the pub. It's yours, title deeds, but if and when you make money, you start cutting us in.'"
Why Clarkson said no
Coulthard said Clarkson declined the offer, explaining: "I think it was just too far from where he lives to make it sensible. It's a difficult business."
Clarkson already owns The Farmer's Dog, a pub in Oxfordshire that opened in August 2024. The 66-year-old is also known for his Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm, which follows life at his Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds. Season five of the show has recently been released.
Clarkson co-hosted The Grand Tour on Amazon alongside Richard Hammond and James May until 2024, when the trio chose to walk away from the show.
