Star Surgeon Ordered to Demolish £6.7m Chelsea Rooftop Pergola
Celebrity Surgeon Must Demolish Chelsea Rooftop Structure

A leading Harley Street plastic surgeon to Hollywood stars has been ordered to dismantle a luxury rooftop structure on his multi-million-pound Chelsea home after losing a planning battle with the local council.

Council Enforcement Over Unapproved Structure

Dr Yannis Alexandrides, 58, the founder of the cult celebrity skincare brand 111Skin, installed a sleek metal pergola on the roof terrace of his family's three-storey townhouse. The property, estimated by Rightmove to be worth £6.7 million, is located on one of the capital's most affluent streets in the exclusive SW3 postcode. Dr Yannis and his wife, Eva, 50, had the structure built to enjoy sunset views from their architect-designed home.

However, Kensington and Chelsea Council officials took issue with the modern canopy, stating it was erected without the required planning permission. They argued it harmed the character of the area, which lies within a protected conservation area known for its elegant redbrick terraces.

Planning Inspector's Stinging Verdict

After Dr Yannis appealed against the enforcement action, Planning Inspector Andy Harwood delivered a decisive ruling. He concluded the pergola had a "harmful effect on the character and appearance of the area" and failed to meet the highest standards of design.

In his report, Mr Harwood stated: "The framework of the pergola extends close to the edge of the roof... it is still very prominent and jarring." He noted that when the blinds were closed, the visual impact would be even greater, and that the structure was more obvious than a previously approved conservatory on the roof.

The inspector ruled that only the complete removal of the pergola would remedy the breach, rejecting a proposal from Dr Yannis to remodel it. The surgeon now has six months to tear down the structure.

Celebrity Links and Global Brand

Dr Alexandrides, an Athens-born former trauma surgeon, runs a world-famous clinic at 111 Harley Street. His skincare brand, 111Skin, is a favourite among A-list clients including Margot Robbie, Victoria Beckham, and Kim Kardashian. The brand, also popular with Priyanka Chopra and Bella Hadid, is a global powerhouse sold in Harrods, Selfridges and Net-a-Porter.

In a significant business move, the brand secured investment in January from Kim Kardashian’s private equity firm, SKKY Partners, to fuel expansion in North America and Asia. It is a market leader in luxury sheet masks, having sold over 18 million of its Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Masks since 2018.

The couple, who have two sons, previously featured their renovated Chelsea home in Hello! magazine, describing it as a 'refuge' during the Covid pandemic. They had undertaken a full-scale renovation, moving living spaces to the first floor for light and creating a basement gym.

In a recent demonstration of his medical expertise beyond cosmetics, Dr Yannis was praised by TV sports presenter Laura Woods for providing emergency treatment after she collapsed during a live ITV broadcast.
