A one-bedroom flat in Cardiff city centre, on the market for £134,950, has drawn attention online because of an unusual coiled radiator in its bathroom. A TikTok video highlighting the feature has left viewers puzzled.
Flat in the Altolusso building
The flat is in the Altolusso building on Bute Terrace, which was completed in 2005 and was for a time the tallest residential building in Wales. The property is advertised as a "ready-made investment" with a tenant already in place paying £950 per month rent.
Most of the interior images show a standard layout, including a bedroom and open-plan living area. But the bathroom radiator stands out as an oddity.
TikToker spotlights the radiator
Jack Bushrod, who shares unusual properties on TikTok and has 228,000 followers, posted a video about the flat. In it, he said: "Here we've got the main entrance as you walk in, nice little dining room set up. Two little bins on the left hand side. Here we've got the kitchen. And upon first glance everything looks normal. But then you get into the bathroom and what the bloody hell is that right there?"
He zoomed in on the radiator, which appears as a single long metal strand coiled like a spring. Comparing it to a retro toy, he said: "It looks like a bloody Slinky. I've never seen a radiator quite like it. Now how the bloody hell do they fit that? And where the bloody hell do you buy that?"

Comments on the video suggested the radiator is standard in the building. One person wrote: "I know someone who lived in the Altolusso and I’m pretty sure all of the bathrooms in the building were designed that way for some reason. Never seen them in the rest of Cardiff though." Another said: "That's the radiator that was fitted when the flats were made, all the flats in that building have them."
Others defended the design for practical reasons. One commenter noted: "This is actually great radiator used to dry your towels quickly and you can find them also down the Cardiff Bay apartments." Another added: "Have one and live in Cardiff, looks odd but is brilliant for drying clothes."
The Rightmove listing for the flat, marketed by Lettings2Sales, describes the radiator as a "cork screw towel rail" and the bathroom as a "Sottini contemporary fitted shower room". Sottini is a bathroom brand owned by Ideal Standard and was discontinued in 2021.
