Celebrity chef and television personality Bobby Flay has become the latest high-profile figure to depart Los Angeles, having successfully sold his luxurious Hollywood Hills residence for a significant profit. The sale, reportedly finalised this Wednesday, sees the Beat Bobby Flay host capitalising on the competitive property market.
A Lucrative Deal in The Bird Streets
According to reports from TMZ, Flay secured $8.35 million for the mid-century modern home located in the coveted Bird Streets neighbourhood of Hollywood Hills. This represents a substantial financial gain for the chef, who purchased the property in 2021. The sale price is a notable $750,000 higher than his original investment, underscoring a profitable exit from the Los Angeles real estate scene.
The 5,700-square-foot property, set on half an acre, boasted a range of impressive features that likely appealed to Flay and his two Maine Coon cats, Canelo and Stella. A standout element was a stunning interior atrium housing a 100-year-old olive tree. The home's four bedrooms each offered access to a private terrace, leading to a landscaped garden with a stone path and swimming pool.
Inside the Chef's Former Californian Retreat
Designed with an open-concept layout, the residence featured soaring 13-foot ceilings, expansive sliding glass doors, and elegant dark stonework. The state-of-the-art, minimalist kitchen was equipped for serious culinary endeavours, complete with a pizza oven and an Argentinian-style grill. Additional amenities included five bathrooms, a dining room, a walk-in closet, a fireplace, a media area, a bar, and an outdoor kitchen.
Flay's primary residence is now his newly renovated 3,800-square-foot loft in Manhattan's Tribeca neighbourhood, marking a return to his native New York roots. His professional life remains centred there; this Wednesday, he was filmed in Midtown alongside friend Scarlett Johansson, recording a holiday hors d'oeuvres segment for TODAY with Jenna & Friends.
Life, Love, and Podcasts in New York
On the personal front, Flay recently invited his 'life partner' Brooke Williamson onto his new podcast, Bobby on the Beat. During the episode, the thrice-divorced chef addressed swirling engagement rumours, confirming he had given Williamson a diamond ring as a symbol of commitment but clarifying that marriage "is not a thing that interests us."
Flay shares a 29-year-old daughter, Sophie, a correspondent for Good Morning America, with his second ex-wife, Kate Connelly. His divorce from third wife Stephanie March in 2015 was reportedly contentious. Professionally, Flay continues to host the fourth season of Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown on the Food Network and oversees a restaurant empire that includes venues in Las Vegas, New York, and North Carolina.
This sale places Bobby Flay among a growing list of celebrities who have chosen to sell their Los Angeles properties in recent times, a trend that continues to captivate the real estate and entertainment worlds.
