Arsenal are edging closer to selling Gabriel Jesus, with Napoli’s pursuit of Romelu Lukaku opening the door for the Brazilian’s departure. The Gunners value Jesus at around £20m, and the Serie A side are believed to need one more sale before turning their attention to incomings.
Napoli’s Lukaku deal paves way
According to Sky Italy, Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with Napoli over a move for Lukaku. The Belgian international is set to move in a cut-price deal worth around £5.12m plus add-ons. That money could go towards a move for Jesus, who remains of interest to Napoli.
Jesus has been linked with a move away all summer, and the door is now ajar at the very least. Arsenal have already made Bruno Guimaraes their fourth senior summer signing, following Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis, and Piero Hincapie, who joined permanently after a successful loan.
Exits and upcoming fixtures
There have also been exits to the tune of around £40m. Karl Hein, Jakub Kiwior, Leandro Trossard, and Christian Norgaard have all departed, while further departures could also follow.
Mikel Arteta oversaw a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Emirates Cup over the weekend and will want a response against Como on Wednesday. After that comes the Community Shield against Manchester City, with new arrival Guimaraes champing at the bit to get his first action in an Arsenal shirt.
Mylo Bernard joins from Palace
Mylo Bernard has joined Arsenal after coming through the ranks at Crystal Palace. According to The Athletic, the Gunners will pay Palace training compensation for the 16-year-old after his schoolboy registration at Selhurst Park expired.
Bernard, a striker, has four goals in eight appearances for England's Under-16 side. He also scored six times in 13 outings in last season's Under-18 Premier League and played in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in May.
The teenager becomes the second promising youngster to join in the close-season. Elijah Upson, son of former Arsenal and England centre-back Matt, arrived in July after leaving Tottenham's academy.
