Morgan Burtwistle, the social media sensation better known as AngryGinge and the recent winner of ITV's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, has celebrated his phenomenal success by purchasing his first home for £420,000. The 24-year-old, who amassed career earnings of £1.4 million before his 25th birthday, bought the luxury property in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester, in June last year.
From Council Estate to Mock Tudor Mansion
The purchase marks a dramatic change in fortune for Burtwistle, who grew up in modest council housing in Eccles. The mock Tudor newbuild is a far cry from the 's***hole' flat he once rented for £350 a month, which had no shower, mould, and peeling wallpaper. His new three-bedroom home boasts a high-spec kitchen-diner, two modern bathrooms, large gardens, a hot tub, a covered patio, and a sweeping driveway.
His estate agent, Jamie Burke, shared the milestone on Instagram, posting a photo of the pair shaking hands in the influencer's brand-new kitchen. Burke wrote: 'New home day for @angryginge13. Thanks for buying through me... It's always a pleasure handing over the keys to a new homeowner, and even more so when it's AngryGinge.'
A Meteoric Rise Fueled by Grit and Grind
Burtwistle's wealth stems from a relentless work ethic, partly inspired by his mother, Michelle. A single parent, she worked up to three jobs—including in a school kitchen, as a cleaner, and in a care home—to support Morgan and his sister Tasha on an income of around £12,500.
He began streaming on Twitch just five years ago, inspired by other creators. His early efforts saw peaks of only 40 viewers, netting him £12.44, and he almost quit after months of low numbers. However, following his grandfather's death from Covid in 2021, he committed to streaming full-time, often for up to ten hours a day, Monday to Friday.
His persistence paid off. Expanding to YouTube and other platforms, he now commands over five million followers across social media, leading to lucrative deals with brands like Puma and JD Sports. The last year alone has seen him earn a staggering £1.2 million, including a £100,000 fee for his I'm A Celebrity appearance, which he ultimately won.
Family, Sacrifice, and a Father's Absence
Burtwistle's journey is deeply intertwined with his family. To relieve financial pressure on his mother, he moved out at 18 to live with his grandmother. He has since used his earnings to pay off all his mother's debts, fulfilling a promise to repay her sacrifices.
In stark contrast, Burtwistle has been openly critical of his estranged father, truck driver Lee Smith, 57, who walked out on the family when Morgan was young. He has described 'constant' court battles to secure maintenance and recounted incidents of his drunken father causing damage to their home. Burtwistle has stated he would 'walk past him' if he saw him today.
His I'm A Celebrity win was, in part, a tribute to his mother. He revealed he took on the challenge partly because Australia was a country she had always wanted to visit, allowing him to give her a 'free holiday'. After his victory, he said: 'I wanted my mum to know how well she did raising us and how much I do appreciate everything that she did.'
From a cramped flat with a grotty carpet to a £420,000 luxury newbuild, Morgan Burtwistle's story is a definitive modern tale of rags-to-riches, powered by digital fame, unwavering dedication, and a profound gratitude for the parent who never gave up.
