A Place in the Sun couple left emotional after securing Spanish dream home

Sarah and Andy, guests on A Place in the Sun, were left emotional after securing their dream home in Costa Blanca, Spain, with plans to relocate permanently. Presenter Leah Charles-King showed the couple five properties during their search.

Couple's Plans for a New Life in Spain

Leah revealed the couple's intention to move permanently, saying: “After years of hard work, former police officer Sarah and ex-soldier Andy are now seeking a slower place of life.” She added: “Since they can now run their business remotely, and their kids are all grown up, they’re thinking now is the best time to take the plunge and relocate to sunny Spain.”

The couple, who have been together for nine years after being set up on a blind date by Andy's daughter, were hoping to move nearly 1,400 miles to Spain with their dog Ruby. They sought a property for £160,000 that could accommodate their combined six children and four grandchildren.

Property Search and Negotiations

Andy told Leah: “The country is so beautiful, the views and the mountains and all the beaches.” Sarah added: “Far better value for money than Costa del Sol, where we’ve been before, and we just fell in love with it.” The couple wanted a property with two to three bathrooms, access to a pool, and some outside space.

After viewing several properties, the couple decided the third property, a detached yellow house with a covered courtyard, garden area, and balconies, was “everything we wanted”. However, they were ultimately blown away by the fifth property, a semi-detached pink house with a roof terrace, courtyard, and three bedrooms.

Successful Offer and Emotional Celebration

The fifth property was on the market for over £172,000, but Sarah and Andy began with an opening offer of £154,000. After their first offer was rejected, and a second at £160,000, the couple accepted a counter-offer of £163,000. “Go for it, we’ll say yes,” Sarah told Leah.

Celebrating their new home, Leah said: “You’re both welling up! The list is gone, we ticked all the boxes and we found your dream home. Here’s to you and the family, you have a brilliant life out here guys, I’m so happy for you.” She added: “Well it’s been an interesting property search of ups and downs. But I think it’s safe to say, I’ve taken Andy’s wish list and blown it out the water. It’s brilliant that they found a permanent place in the sun for them, their family and Ruby the dog to enjoy, and I wish them many years of happiness here.”

A Place in the Sun is available to watch on Channel 4.
